Acne can affect skin at any age from adolescence to adulthood. It can be disfiguring, causing redness, pustules, scarring. Although it is important to keep the skin clean, acne is not caused by dirt.
Acne is usually characterized by formation of pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. The common mistake to think that black part of the blackheads is dirt. What you see is the open comedones (a plug of oil and sebum inside the follicle/pore) that has been exposed to oxygen, a process known as oxidation, and darkened. Whiteheads are the same comedones but closed (no oxygen contact) and did not changed its color.
The main causes of seborrhea are hormonal changes, pollution, stress, unbalanced diet. Seborrhea characterized by inflammation, severe outbreaks, oily skin surface.
